Proper collection of a urine sample is important for accurate results. A clean-catch midstream sample is typically recommended to avoid contamination. Patients should clean the genital area before collecting the sample and catch the urine midstream rather than at the beginning or end of urination. Some tests require a first-morning sample when urine is most concentrated, while others may require a 24-hour collection.
