Hemoglobin A1c, commonly known as HbA1c or glycated hemoglobin, is a blood test that measures the average blood sugar levels over the past two to three months. Understanding HbA1c results is important for preventing diabetes-related complications. Higher HbA1c levels indicate poorer blood sugar control and increase the risk of complications such as nerve damage, kidney disease, eye problems, and cardiovascular disease. Even small reductions in HbA1c levels can significantly decrease these risks.
