Some people who smoke or use performance-enhancing drugs may also have higher than normal hemoglobin levels. Symptoms of high hemoglobin can include headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, and an increased risk of blood clots.

Preparing for a hemoglobin test is straightforward, as it typically requires no special preparation. The test involves drawing a small blood sample from a vein in your arm, which takes only a few minutes. Results are usually available within a day or two. If your hemoglobin levels are abnormal, your healthcare provider will discuss the findings with you and may recommend additional testing or treatment options based on your specific situation and overall health status.
